EXHIBITION SPACE PLANNING

AGRINIO, GREECE

The study deals with the planning of spaces destined to host periodic exhibitions. The construction of vertical exhibition surfaces from lightweight material is advocated. The composition favours transformability and variability as the guiding principles of construction. The idea is twofold: it consists of the basic structural unit and the assembly system, which, according to the type of assemblage selected, may allow for multiple spatial arrangements. The basic element, a surface measuring 2x3m is made of a metal frame clad with wood. The assembly system falls into four different types which when combined may produce six basic spatial arrangements: Γ, Ζ, Τ, Π, Ι.

The design is based on two fundamental principles: the various qualities of achievable space arrangements to suit the needs of periodic exhibitions, and the convenient assembly, dismantling and storage of individual elements.
